Trevor White

Many players will request a shaft with this or that kind of grain pattern, simply on the basis of appearance and not really because they feel the cue will play better for it.
I think that it has become increasingly fashioinable to have the kind of grain pattern which shows this clear "arrow or chevron" marking to the face side of the shaft, preferably with a fairly straight side grain. But in truth, these kinds of shaft will be no better than those with a wilder and more unpredictable grain, as long as the shaft has some weight and stiffness to it, that it all that's required to make a solid cue. Obviously, there are many other factors to why a cue is either good or bad to use, but it is certainly NOT about the grain in the wood.

If anyone tells you that what I am saying above is incorrect or untrue, they either do not know what they are talking about or are trying to mislead you.
